Nicholas A. Clawson

Nicholas (“Nick”) focuses their practice on intellectual property matters related to electrical engineering technologies, with experience drafting and managing patent applications at all stages of prosecution. In 2014, Nick earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the United States Military Academy, after which they served as a Logistics Officer in the United States Army. Nick received their J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 2024.

From their Army days, Nick brings a strong organizational and tactical planning mindset to patent prosecution, drawing upon experience working with and across departments and agencies to obtain the information and cooperation needed to complete complex tasks. They has experience drafting and prosecuting patents across a wide range of fields, including power generation systems, semiconductor-based imaging systems, personal security systems, and personal cosmetic devices. Nick also has experience in IP litigation matters, assisting attorneys with legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and conducting factual diligence.

During law school, Nick served as Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Washington Journal of Law, Technology, and the Arts. Here, they wrote on the development of copyright law regarding the public performance of theatrical works, as well as a discussion on the potential benefits of Markman-style briefs in copyright infringement litigation for musical works.

Prior to joining Seed IP, Nick worked for several years at another boutique IP law firm based out of Seattle, WA. Currently, they also serve on the Board of Directors for the Tacoma Little Theatre.
