Hemant Khanna, Ph.D.

Hemant focuses his practice on patent preparation and prosecution of chemical and pharmaceutical matters. He received a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Michigan (2002), an M.S. in Organic Chemistry from Brandeis University (1994), and a B.Sc. (with Honors) in Chemistry from Delhi University (1992).

Hemant’s practice focuses on competitive technology, market and patent analysis in the areas of therapeutics for rare diseases and first in class targets. The intelligence he gathers serves as a means to secure venture money for startups in the drug discovery space. His clients are venture capitalists and companies with highly innovative and inventive technologies looking to advance their products from drug discovery to clinic.

Hemant supports client counseling in collaboration with partners from Seed IP and guides business executives on strategic portfolio management. His counseling practice is supported by an extremely robust patent preparation practice, also in the small molecule and drug discovery space.

In addition to being an IP leader, Hemant is also a subject matter expert, specializing in the chemical industry. Previously, as an in-house patent agent, he succeeded in establishing his own drug portfolio in the marketplace.

Prior to joining Seed IP, Hemant worked for a number of years at Clarivate Analytics, where he developed a successful business of Chemistry services around innovative product offerings that disrupted the legal industry. He served customers that weren’t being served and was in charge of leadership, prosecution, project management, and quality assurance of his domain. Subject areas he specialized in included chemical, food, pharma, oil & gas, markets, technologies, and IP.

Hemant’s customer centricity distinguishes him from his peers. He is not just an immensely productive legal delivery expert but also a business expert who puts his clients first. His consultative and collaborative style of management, his agility in execution and his ability to make decisions is not only transformative but one that has earned him the respect of his partners, clients and customers.
