Law students Laurel Brown, Ph.D. (Seattle University School of Law) and Leo Huang (University of Washington School of Law) were recently selected as the recipients of Seed Intellectual Property Law Group’s Founders Scholarships for the 2019-2020 period. Dr. Brown received a Ph.D. (2009) and an M.A. (2006), both in History of Science and Middle Eastern Studies, from Columbia University in New York City. She also received a B.A. (magna cum laude) in Astronomy-Physics from Colgate University in Hamilton, NY (1999). Dr. Brown is a J.D. candidate (est. May 2021) at Seattle University School of Law. Mr. Huang received an M.S. in Law from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in Chicago (2017) and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from National Tsing Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan (2015). He is a J.D. candidate (est. June 2022) at University of Washington School of Law.

In 2003, Seed IP Law Group created two scholarships to honor its founders, Richard W. Seed and Benjamin F. Berry. Seed IP Law Group’s Founders Scholarships are awarded annually to students at the University of Washington and Seattle University Schools of Law. Seed IP seeks to recognize outstanding students who have a keen interest in the field of intellectual property law and who also have an undergraduate degree that qualifies him/her to sit for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Bar Exam. “We think it’s very important to train the next generation of intellectual property attorneys so that we can continue to build on the legacy started by Benjamin F. Berry and Richard W. Seed,” says Kevin S. Costanza, Seed IP’s Managing Partner. “Only through strong support of higher education will our country continue to be a leader in the world.”

On April 16, an attorney-student networking reception will be held in the office of Seed IP Law Group. Dr. Brown and Mr. Huang, along with many other IP law students from Seattle University School of Law and University of Washington School of Law, are scheduled to be in attendance. The reception gives the students an unique opportunity to interact and network with attorneys from Seed IP Law Group.
