Seed IP partner Bobby Soltani has transitioned to president of the Washington State Patent Law Association for the 2022-2023 period, as recently announced by the WSPLA Board. Bobby most recently served as vice-president.

Bobby's practice focuses on the U.S. and foreign patent prosecution of electrical engineering and computer software matters and patent litigation, infringement opinions, licensing, and strategic portfolio management. He received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Bobby holds a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma College of Law. He is admitted to practice in Washington and Colorado and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Bobby is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He also lectures on U.S. patent practice at the University of Washington's renowned Center for Advanced Study and Research on Innovation Policy (CASRIP).

The Washington State Patent Law Association is the leading organization for patent attorneys and other patent professionals in our state, providing a forum for patent and other intellectual property law issues, and serves as a valuable resource for patent attorneys, agents, educators, students, and owners of intellectual property. Through the activities of its Board of Directors and its various Committees, WSPLA strives to fulfill the following purposes: to advance the understanding of intellectual property laws among professionals and lay persons, to stimulate interchange of thought among its members, to aid in the institution of improvements in the law relating to intellectual property, and to advance the best interests of the public which this association serves.

The WSPLA president presides at all meetings of the Board of Directors, has general supervision of the affairs of the Association, and performs such other duties as are incident to the office or are properly required of the President of the Board of Directors. Duties include establishing the agenda for, and conduct all meetings of, the Board of Directors, schedule quarterly meetings, strategic planning for the organization, arrange Continuing Legal Education (CLE) luncheons for members of WSPLA, conduct the Annual Meeting at the May WSPLA meeting, and, in concert with the Secretary, periodically undertake a review of the organization By-Laws and Articles of Incorporation.

Dating back to the beginning of WSPLA in 1972, Seed IP Law Group (including several variations of named partners) has had 10 of its partners serve as president of the WSPLA. The term of WSPLA president is one year.
