Position Summary

The Knowledge Manager is accountable for all of the processes and systems used to develop, manage, and share knowledge at Seed IP. This newly created role will develop the framework for ensuring that every employee has the knowledge needed to fulfill their job responsibilities and instill an appreciation of how their role and responsibilities interact with others to advance the interests of the organization. The position reports to the firm’s Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the Knowledge Manager will evolve as knowledge management (KM) evolves in the organization.

Build the Program

·  Create awareness in the organization of the principles of KM and how they can impact the performance of the organization

·   Work with leadership to establish KM as apriority initiative for the organization and develop means to legitimize and motivate the seeking and sharing of knowledge

·   Create an awareness of the behaviors and culture needed to promote KM and guide and support both individuals and teams in embracing a change in behavioral style, moving from data/information push to knowledge pull and sharing

·   Ensure that appropriate resources for KM are in place

Manage the Knowledge

·   Identify the knowledge critical to the organization, looking beyond technical knowledge (know-how) to strategic, business-environmental, people, and other knowledge categories (know-why, know-who, etc.)

·   Collaborate with firm leadership to identify the individuals in the organization with knowledge in specific areas that are critical to the performance of the organization and enroll them in the process of managing that knowledge

·   Develop a suite of tools for learning before, during, and after and a means of integrating these within the normal working practices of the organization

·   Develop processes for capture, storage, validation, and retrieval of knowledge

·   Facilitate and promote the capture and sharing of knowledge throughout the project lifecycle

·   Ensure the knowledge generated within the organization is made easily visible, available, and useful to seekers

·   Monitor the effectiveness, maintenance, and use of appropriate tools and systems as they apply to KM and continuously improve them

Manage the Training

·   Help new ideas from the workforce survive and thrive inside and outside the team

·   Monitor the behaviors and culture within the organization as they impact KM and prompt for recognition when and where necessary

·   Coach the organization in the use of KM processes and tools

·   Serve as a central resource to compile and track training requests from employees

·   Coordinate training initiatives across the firm

Education and Experience

·   Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

·   At least three years of experience in a KM role, ideally for a professional services organization

Qualifications

·   Unquestioned ethics and integrity

·   Ability to think strategically, broadly, and creatively while also serving as a capable project manager and a high performing individual contributor

·   A quick student of new functions, processes, and systems

·   An awareness of what they do not know and what questions to ask to reach well-informed decisions that minimize risk

·   Self-motivated, flexible, deals well with ambiguity, and does not require positional authority to get things done

·   Engaging and persuasive communicator who is audience-aware and able to articulate ideas, thoughts, and questions clearly and appropriately, including the ability to discuss complex topics with a diverse audience in a clear and concise manner

·   Collaborative style that influences change and builds consensus for ideas and recommendations that move the organization forward

·   Passionate and proactive about solving problems, adding value, and delivering superior results

·   Has compassion for colleagues and able to sustain collegiality and team orientation in a high performance culture

·   Ability to continually prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently
