Four Seed IP attorneys participate at 2011 CASRIP Summer Institute

The Center for Advanced Study and Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP) Summer Institute offers in-depth legal education and training for U.S. and international intellectual property lawyers, patent agents, post-graduate scientists and engineers, and law students. Held annually on the campus of the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, CASRIP is a two-week intensive program that teaches the fundamentals of patent prosecution, patent litigation, and technology licensing and management, from a comparative law perspective. During the CASRIP Summer Institute, a special two-day program called the High Technology Protection Summit also takes place, attracting experts from around the world who discuss cutting-edge legal issues in intellectual property law and innovation. Seed IP attorneys Karl R. Hermanns, David V. Carlson, Stephen J. Rosenman, and Nathan E. Durrance took part as lecturers and panelists during the 2011 CASRIP Summer Institute. A cocktail reception for all 2011 CASRIP Summer Institute and High Technology Protection Summit participants was held on the evening of July 22 at the Seed IP Law Group office.

Seed IP named one of “Washington’s Best Workplaces” for 2011 by Puget Sound Business Journal

For the fourth consecutive year, Puget Sound Business Journal has named Seed IP Law Group PLLC as one of “Washington’s Best Workplaces.” Initially launched in 2007, the “Washington’s Best Workplaces” program was created by the Puget Sound Business Journal  in order to identify and recognize the best practices in the hiring and retention of great people. Seattle Business selects Seed IP as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” in 2011

Seed IP Law Group PLLC has been selected as one of the “100 Best Companies to Work For” in a 2011 survey conducted by Seattle Business magazine as part of its July 2011 feature and cover story. The companies selected include small, medium, large, and nonprofits, representing the Puget Sound area and beyond. More than 10,000 employees of nominated companies filled out surveys which were administered by Ipsos, a Seattle-based research firm. From the calculated research gathered, a distinguished panel of judges chose the top companies. Winning companies were recognized for setting the standards for leadership and management practices, benefits and perks, work environment, innovative training program, happiest employees, and more. “Washington Super Lawyers” selects six Seed IP Law Group attorneys for its 2011 list

Seed IP partners Dr. William T. Christiansen II, Kevin S. Costanza, William O. Ferron, Jr., Karl R. Hermanns, Jeffrey M. Sakoi, and Dr. Richard G. Sharkey have been selected as 2011 Super Lawyers, as published in Thomson Reuters’ Washington Super Lawyers, Summer 2011 issue. Since 1991, Super Lawyers  has provided a yearly listing of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. “Washington Rising Stars” selects four Seed IP Law Group attorneys for its 2011 list

Seed IP Law Group partners Dr. Carol D. Laherty, Mae Joanne Rosok, and Emily Woodson Wagner, along with associate attorney Dr. Hai Han, have been selected as 2011 Rising Stars, as published in Thomson Reuters’ Washington Super Lawyers, Summer 2011 issue. All Rising Stars are nominated and selected by recent Super Lawyer honorees. The Rising Stars designation is given annually to a selected group of attorneys, each of whom has either been in practice for less than 10 years or are under the age of forty. All four of our selected attorneys are multiple-year Rising Stars honorees and each specializes in intellectual property law. Dr. Han, Dr. Laherty, Ms. Rosok, and Ms. Wagner are attorneys within Seed IP’s Biotechnology, Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group.

Seed IP Law Group welcomes new associate Vladimir Raskin, Ph.D.

Seed IP’s Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Group proudly welcomes new associate Vladimir Raskin, Ph.D. Vladimir specializes in patent prosecution and counseling, including patent drafting, prosecution, and procurement of U.S. and foreign patents in the fields of telecommunications, electrical engineering, electronics, Internet, RFID, LCD, software, and mechanical technologies. Vladimir received a M.S. in Electrical Engineering (1982), and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Telecommunications (1990), from Moscow Transport University in Moscow, Russia. He obtained an International Business Certificate from the University of Washington Business School in 1998. Vladimir received his J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law in 2007, in the Intellectual Property Law Concentration Track.

Vladimir is admitted to the Washington State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Washington State Patent Law Association and the King County Bar Association, Intellectual Property Section.

Intellectual Property Today magazine has ranked Seed IP Law Group at #56 in its annual “Top Trademark Firms” survey. The data, gathered from reporting nationwide firms, is based on the total amount of United States trademark registrations issued in 2010 where the law firm, or member of the firm (i.e. partner/associate), is listed as the legal representative on the registration. Seed IP issued 175 trademark registrations in 2010. Seed IP has consistently been among the Top 100 in this annual survey.

Seed IP issued 488 patents in 2010. Seed IP has consistently been among the Top 100 in this annual survey.

Seed IP managing partner Karl R. Hermanns interviewed by Puget Sound Business Journal

Karl R. Hermanns, Managing Partner of Seed IP Law Group, recently sat down with reporter Bethany Overland for an interview published in the March 25-31 edition of the Puget Sound Business Journal. In the interview, Mr. Hermanns gives his take on recent legislative action regarding patent law and, more specifically, on a bill that is currently awaiting a vote from the U.S. House of Representatives after passing through the Senate. More and more, Congress is seeing patent law bills come under serious consideration for the first time since 1952.

Mr. Hermanns has practiced patent law for twenty-three years and has served as the Managing Partner at Seed IP Law Group for the past seven years. He specializes in chemical-related patent matters, including overall portfolio management and strategy. Karl graduated with both a B.S. and an M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Washington. He received his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Washington School of Law, co-teaching the patent preparation and prosecution course, and teaches “Intellectual Property for Scientists” through the Chemistry and Bioengineering Departments. Karl is also a faculty member of the Center for Advanced Study and Research on Intellectual Property (CASRIP) at the University of Washington School of Law. He is an Advisory Board Member to the University of Washington Bioengineering’s Program for Technology Commercialization, and a past president of the Intellectual Property Section of the Washington State Bar Association.
