Carol J. Roth specializes in chemical patent matters. She received a B.S. in Zoology from Southeast Missouri State University (Magna Cum Laude, 1977) and a J.D. from Santa Clara University (1987).
Carol has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical patent field, with special emphasis on small organic molecules. Her patent law experience includes six years as a corporate patent attorney at Syntex (USA) Inc. in Palo Alto, California, where she drafted and prosecuted patent applications in human and veterinary pharmaceutical and diagnostic fields involving new chemical entities, synthetic processes, and enzyme technology. Following her work at Syntex, Carol held the position of Patent Counsel for over seven years at Berlex Biosciences in Richmond, California where she procured and maintained Berlex's patent portfolio.
Carol is admitted to the Washington State Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the California State Bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She is a member of the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association and the American Bar Association, where she chaired the Intellectual Property Law Section's Committees on Minorities and Women in the Profession and on Law Students.
