Michael McDonald (Patent Agent) specializes in patent matters
pertaining to biotechnology. He received a B.S. (magna cum laude)
in Biological Sciences from Colorado State University (1995)
and a M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Brandeis University
(2000). Michael went on to earn a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular
Biology, also from Brandeis University (2002).
Prior to joining Seed IP, Michael was a post-doctoral research
fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and at
Universite de Geneve in Geneve, Switzerland. He has been awarded
many scholarships and grants including the Howard Hughes Medical
Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship, the Human Frontier Science
Program Long-Term Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Genetic and
Biochemical Mechanisms of Regulation Grant. Michael has co-authored
a number of scientific articles, including several on the regulatory
mechanisms and output pathways of Drosophila circadian rhythms.
He is proficient in French.
For several years, Michael served as the assistant editor
of the Pole Position newsletter at the National Centers for
Competence in Research in Geneve, Switzerland. Michael is
registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office. His professional affiliations include the Washington
State Patent Law Association and the Washington Biotechnology
and Biomedical Association.
